This website features a wide range of working models and technical reproductions created for television and film over the last four years. Many of the pieces have involved personal appearances on camera in the form of description, explanatory "Show & Tell" discussion, experiments and detailed demonstrations of the pieces.
The models and reconstructions range from functional re-creation Classical Era weapons such as Archimides' Steam Canon, to World War II covert operation devices, from Heron of Alexandria's Automata to Fontana's Renaissance Rocket Car.
Having spent some thirty years as an established designer/maker and teaching 3-dimensional design at degree level, I have a wide range of making skills to draw on and the projects illustrated have required most of this experience or more. However, film and television work is a relatively recent departure. Most of my making career has involved intricate wood and metal-working in the context of small sculptural objects, Kinetics, Automata and Musical Instruments. The Historical Documentary Series Ancient Discoveries (Series 4) Premiered on Monday 28th January 2008, The History Channel (USA) and is currently being aired; a repeat run of Series 3 began with Episode "Machines of the Gods" on Tuesday 29th of January 2008, The History Channel (UK).
