Diving Bell

Alexander the Great was depicted in stories and graphical representations investing a city's defences with a diving bell of this kind, possibly one of the earliest examples of a covert sub-aquatic technology. In this reconstruction, counter-balanced stone weights provide the bell with enough buoyancy to move freely beneath the surface for extended periods of time.
