Heron's Fountain

Heron’s Fountain was said to have literally defied gravity. A bowl is filled with liquid, and when the valve is released the liquid runs into a sealed glass vessel below. As this fills the air is compressed and the liquid becomes forced up a pipe, returning into the main bowl.
